The Joomla Mobile Template works for most iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Palm, Google Android and Nokia Symbian os devices. The Joomla Mobile Template comes in two parts, a plugin and a template. You will need to install both for the template to work. There is some editing of an xml file involved but in general, the template and plugin are easy to install. |

Here are the basic installation instructions for the Joomla Mobile Template. 1) Install the template. 2) Install the plugin. 3) Go to Extensions > Plugin Manager > Enable the “Joomla Mobile” plugin. From now on SmartPhones will be directed to the Joomla Mobile template. 4) Make the file - /templates/pda/params.ini - writable. 5) Now go to Extension > Template Manager. Click "Joomla Mobile" template. Here you can change the parameters. The plugin check box must be set to yes. 6) Now you need to create the module positions. You will be doing this in your current active template, not in the mobile template. FTP the templateDetails.xml file (l/templates/pda) to your desktop and open it in your favorite editor. Notepad is fine. Open the templateDetails.xml file for your current template and add these positions: ------- copy & paste ------- <position>header</position> ---------------------------- You will see other <position> entries in the template file. Add these to the bottom of the list. 7) Now you need to create the modules. In most cases, this will be a new html module except, of course, the menu module. Create a new module for "header", "menu" and "footer". Make sure you assign the module to the correct module position. These are the positioned you created earlier. The module name and their position are the same. If you do not set the correct position, the mobile template will not show that module. 8) Joomla Mobile works from a unique menu. You will need to make a menu named "menu". Go to Menus > Menu Manager and create a new menu for the pages you want to show in the mobile site. In the menu, you must link to one page only for each link created. This app does not use sub-categories yet. We are working on adding that soon. Set the menu to show on the homepage only. This is important! 9) The mobile template works in a similar fashion as the original template, But it will pick content only from above mentioned module positions, and css is separately defined for it. The main content of the site will remain same for main template and mobile template. If you want to edit the css, it is located at - /templates/pda/css - the file name is template.css.
